cPanel offers a suite of integrated tools under the « Metrics » section that allow you to monitor and analyze the performance of your website. With these metrics, you can not only track your site’s status but also anticipate issues, optimize resource usage, and enhance the user experience.
These statistics are essential for understanding visitor behavior, managing resource consumption, and identifying potential technical problems. Here's how to interpret and use the main performance metrics provided by cPanel.
Among the tools available in cPanel, we will focus on four key indicators that should be monitored regularly:
- Visitors
The Visitors feature analyzes the logs generated by your web server each time someone accesses your site. These logs record a wide range of information such as the visitor’s IP address, the requested resource, the date and time of access, and other technical details.
To access this tool, go to cPanel > Metrics > Visitors
Select your domain (SSL or non-SSL).
The Visitors interface provides detailed insights into recent visits, helping you better understand user behavior.
- Bandwidth
Bandwidth is one of the most important metrics to monitor when managing a website. It refers to the total amount of data transferred between your server and your visitors, including page loads, images, videos, file downloads, and email transmissions.
You can access it via: cPanel > Metrics > Bandwidth
This tool displays bandwidth usage through graphs and statistics, organized by time period (hour, day, month) and by service (HTTP, FTP, email, etc.).
- Errors
When visitors attempt to access unavailable pages or resources, errors may occur. cPanel provides a dedicated tool called “Errors” (or “Error Logs”) that records and displays these incidents in real time.
You can access it via: cPanel > Metrics > Errors
Errors are usually reported using HTTP status codes (e.g., 404, 500, etc.), which can be viewed in the server logs.To learn more about what these errors mean and how to fix them, please refer to our article dedicated to common issues, such as 403 error and 404 error.
- Resource Usage
The Resource Usage tool in cPanel is a key indicator for evaluating your website’s performance and the stability of your hosting.
It provides valuable insights into how your website is using server resources, such as the CPU, RAM, running processes, and disk I/O.
To learn more about how your account consumes resources, please refer to the following article: How do the resources in cPanel impact my website?
If your site exceeds its allocated limits, this may lead to slowdowns, errors like HTTP 503, or even temporary service interruptions.
You can access it via: cPanel > Metrics > Resource Usage
The Dashboard section allows you to quickly check if you’ve exceeded your account’s resource limits and identify which resources were overused.
For more information, click "Details" in the resource section.
These overages can be caused by traffic spikes, inefficient scripts or plugins, automated attacks (such as brute-force), or overly frequent scheduled tasks.
